“Vision of Hope Zambia gave me more than just skills — it gave me confidence, purpose, and a second chance at life.”
Joyce, now 25, first arrived at the Vision of Hope Zambia shelter in 2016 as a vulnerable adolescent in need of protection and direction. Recognizing her potential, the organization enrolled her in a one-year tailoring course at Chelstone Youth Centre, where she graduated in 2017 with commendable skills and determination.
Following her graduation, Joyce worked at Vision of Hope for a year, stepping in to support the shelter as a mother caring for the girls. She later returned to the organization — this time as a trainer under the crafts department, leading tailoring and makeup classes for the next generation of girls. Today, Joyce stands out as a beacon of success and transformation. She can design and produce a wide range of handmade products including chitenge earrings, handbags, tote bags, hair bands, and pants. She also trains girls in the art of crafting doormats — a skill that has empowered others to begin their own journeys toward independence.
Joyce transitioned to independent living in 2019, and she has continued to thrive, using the skills she gained through Vision of Hope Zambia's education and vocational support. Her story embodies the long-term impact of empowering girls with practical skills, mentorship, and confidence.
